Pick channels to watch in VLC, on a smart TV or in an IPTV app. Each one gets its own .m3u address that plays it in step with HPad TV. Only the channels you pick are shared, and the apps play your video files directly, so nothing extra runs on your server.
Add a radio station or a live TV stream by its web address. Each one gets its own channel and plays live, with no schedule.
Channels added here are saved in this browser only. To give everyone who visits your site the same live channels, put them in a streams.txt file next to HPad TV, one per line, like News Radio | https://example.com/live.mp3 | radio | 67. The number at the end is the channel number, and you can leave it off.
Picture format: Auto shows each video in its own shape. 16:9 fills a widescreen picture, stretching older 4:3 shows. 4:3 is a classic TV picture, with black bars above and below widescreen shows. The A key or the format button in the banner switches it too.
This browser couldn't play these files, so they aren't on any channel. Converting them to H.264 .mp4 usually fixes it.
Each folder next to HPad TV becomes a channel with the same name as the folder, so a folder called Cartoons is the Cartoons channel. Videos inside it, including any sub-folders, play in order by file name and episode number. Videos sitting next to HPad TV, outside any folder, play on a channel named after the main folder.
To put a folder on a certain channel, start its name with the number and a dash, like 5 - Cartoons. It shows up as Cartoons on channel 5. Folders without a number are numbered from 101 in A to Z order.
To give a channel a picture logo, put a picture called logo.png in its folder (.jpg, .webp, .gif and .svg work too). For channels without a folder, like HPad FM or Weather, make a folder called logos next to HPad TV and name each picture after the channel's number or name, like 15.png or HPad FM.png. Channels without a picture keep their lettered logo.
A channel can also play videos that live somewhere else on the web. In its folder, put a text file ending in .strm that holds the video's web address, named after the show, like Big Buck Bunny (2008).strm. For many videos at once, use a playlist ending in .m3u with one web address per line, or lines like Title | https://…/video.mp4. Desktop shortcuts (.url and .webloc) and HLS videos (.m3u8) work too. The address has to be the video file itself (.mp4, .webm, .m3u8 or .mp3), not a page like YouTube.
Channel 10 is VOD, video on demand: pick a show or movie and it plays from the start, with pause, rewind and skip, and it remembers where you stopped. Choose what's on it in Settings with Choose videos for VOD, which picks videos from your other channels without copying them. A folder called VOD works too: everything in it is on demand only, and it doesn't get a channel of its own.
A folder of music files (.mp3, .m4a and more) becomes a music channel that shuffles your songs, with each song's name, artist and cover art on screen, like 69 - Music.
Channel 15 is HPad Weather: live readings from the weather station, the National Weather Service forecast for the area, and the weather cams, which load a fresh picture every minute. Press ← or → there to flip between pages.
Channel 2 is HPad Guide, an old-school guide channel with listings that scroll by on their own. Its picture plays the videos from channel 99, so make a folder like 99 - Promos for the clips you want there. Without a channel 99, it previews a different channel every 30 seconds instead. Press Enter or click the picture to watch that channel.
Live channels go on the channel number you give them, like HPad FM on 67. Ones without a number come after your folders: TV streams first, then radio, each starting on a new block of numbers like 201 or 301. Radio channels show the song that's playing when the station shares it.
Everything else plays on a schedule, so changing channels drops you into whatever is on right now, and everyone watching the same site sees the same thing.
Tick the videos to put on VOD, channel 10. They stay on their own channels too. Nothing gets copied: HPad TV just saves a short list of their names, called vod.txt, next to HPad TV. Ticking a whole channel also brings in any videos you add to it later.
Tick the channels to share as .m3u streams. Channels you don't tick get no stream address. After adding videos to a shared channel, open this again and save, so the stream includes them.
On a touch screen, swipe up or down on the picture to change channels, and tap it to show the remote.
Your videos, on channels.
You can also drag videos or a folder onto this screen.
